Product Check
A shopper checks a pack in the shop before paying. The manufacturer learns where its genuine packs are sold and where suspected fakes appear, shop by shop and area by area.
For shoppers
A check takes a few seconds, and it is free
- Before buying
Scan the code on the pack
The result shows whether the code matches the maker's record, the expiry on record, and whether the same code has been seen elsewhere.
- After opening
Scan the hidden inner code
For higher-risk products, a second code inside the pack shows whether it has already been opened and checked by someone else.
- At the counter
Scan the shop's sticker
The shopper can see whether the shop records its deliveries, and can report a problem tied to that shop.
Shoppers use the app, WhatsApp, SMS or a USSD menu (the *…# codes that work on any phone), in English or Nigerian Pidgin. No sign-up is needed.
For manufacturers
See where your products really end up
Works with your own codes
You keep generating your QR codes and batch codes. Product Check reads them; it does not need to print them for you.
Where packs are checked
Checks by shop and area, so you can see which distributors and markets your genuine packs reach.
Where fakes turn up
Warnings when a code is unknown, copied or seen in too many places, with the shop and area where it happened.
Evidence, not accusation
Every report is graded by how well its location is confirmed. A shop is flagged only after several independent phones on different days. A report leads to a look, never an automatic penalty.
Recalls reach shoppers
When you recall a batch, shoppers who check it see the recall straight away.
Privacy by design
Shoppers' phone numbers are never stored in plain form, and exact locations are kept only where a warning or report needs them, in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
Status
Product Check is a working pilot running in test mode, with invented product data. We are looking for food and beverage manufacturers to run a first live pilot on a few product lines and markets.
Run a pilot on your products
Tell us which products and markets worry you most. A pilot is small, time-boxed and measured against figures you agree in advance.
